How to add alternate contact information to your phone’s Lock screen
Another useful tip is to create a Lock screen message with alternative contact information. Our research indicates that phones with these messages are three times more likely to be returned to their owners if lost. Setting it up is really easy.
Here’s how you can do it on a Samsung Galaxy:
- Open Settings > Lock screen.
- Tap the Lock screen icon
- Tap + Contact information
- Enter either an alternate phone number or your email, then tap Done.
If you have a Google Pixel T-Mobile,
- Tap Settings
- Display
- Lock screen.
- Then tap Add text on the lock screen, add your information, and tap Save.
Track your phone’s location using Find My Device
- Go to http://android.com/find.
- Sign in with your Gmail account and password.
- On the sidebar, you’ll see all of our devices. Click on the phone you want to find. On the map, you’ll see your mobile phone’s approximate location. If the device cannot be found, it’ll show you the location history.
From the map page, you have three options—find, secure, or erase your Android device:
- Play sound. Even if it’s silent or vibrates, your phone will still ring.
- Secure device. You can do this with your current location pin or create a new one. This option also allows you to leave anyone who finds your device a message or a phone number where you can be reached.
- Factory reset device. You can do this remotely to protect your personal info in case it falls into the wrong hands.
